James has an MA in history and was ABD in his PhD history program before pursuing a career as an editor. The core of his freelance work is with academic journals (history; area studies; sport studies; music, performance, and ethnomusicology; cultural and literary studies), but he also enjoys developmental, stylistic, structural, and copy editing for book projects in African history, South Asian history, colonial and postcolonial studies, gender studies, and the humanities and social sciences broadly. He’s happy to talk to anyone about his experiences in and perspectives on life as a freelance editor.
